Aylesbury MP Rob Butler voiced his support for local young people highlighting the impact of litter and non-recyclable waste, as Pebble Brook sixth-form students on the Inspiration Programme shared their concerns with him during a visit on Friday (30th April).
Rob said:
“The young people I spoke with today showed real passion for politics and making their communities better places to live and learn in. They emphasised their concerns about topics such as litter and pollution, and how important it is for politicians to tackle them.
“Pebble Brook pupils have been out litter picking, showing real care for their community. But, as I told the students today, this shouldn’t be necessary. Litter louts are a blight on our environment and I fully support proposals to find and punish the people who spoil our landscape like this.”
The Inspiration Programme is run by a local youth charity, Action 4 Youth. The twelve-month course is in its fourth year and is being delivered to students in year 10 to year 13 across Buckinghamshire. When speaking to Rob, the students also discussed topics including crime, clean energy and recycling.
Rob added:
“It’s important that we leave our world in a better state for the next generation and the UK is leading the charge by recently enshrining in law the new target to cut emissions nationally by 78 per cent by 2035. Here in Bucks, we’re helping to reach this goal, with energy-from-waste facilities operating nearby reducing our landfill and fossil-fuel use.
“The students and I highlighted how, together with Aylesbury’s ambitious Garden Town project, measures such as these will help make our local area a more sustainable, better place to live, work, visit and invest.”
