Every day, strong and healthy young people die suddenly from heart conditions they didn’t know they had. Today I attended an important event in Parliament organised by a new
organisation called ToBe-Heartsafe . Its mission is “to provide cardiac screening, CPR training and defibrillators for schools and sports clubs to reduce the incidence of these tragedies, and in particular to broaden the range of young people who can benefit from screening.” I spoke to former footballer Fabrice Muamba, who suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during an FA Cup match in 2012. For 78 minutes, medics fought to get his heart beating again. Thankfully he survived and is now campaigning to help detect cardiac conditions in 14-35 year olds around the country.
