Today the Chancellor of the Exchequer delivered his Autumn budget statement. In the face of profound economic challenges faced by almost the entire western world, Jeremy Hunt has had to take tough and painful decisions on tax and spending. He underlined, though that this Conservative government will continue to support the most vulnerable as we tackle the rising cost of living.
We are doing this by:
- Protecting the Triple Lock for pensioners
- Keeping energy bills down by extending the price guarantee to 2024
- Boosting the National Living Wage with an average pay rise of £1600 for millions of workers
- More funding for the NHS and schools over the next two years
The Chancellor also emphasised how important it is that we grow the British economy. To do that he has promised continued investment in infrastructure. This is something we desperately need in Aylesbury, especially with so much housing development. So I asked Jeremy Hunt to confirm the Government's support for the construction of link roads around our town - to cut congestion and improve air quality.
