This week I spoke in the House of Commons in the Second Reading debate on the Judicial Review and Courts Bill. Second Reading is an opportunity to talk about the broad subject area covered by the proposed new law. I focused on proposed changes to the magistrates’ courts, which I believe will make for a much more efficient system for everybody involved in them – including victims of crime. I also repeated my call for the Ministry of Justice to change the law about young people, so that the justice system deals with them according to the age when they committed the offence, not the age when they first appear in court.
