It was good to visit Sumitomo Demag Plastics Machinery in Stoke Mandeville this morning. The company sells and supports injection-moulding machines that make everything from bottle tops to medical equipment – and the team quickly adapted to be able to continue its work throughout the pandemic.
Plastic remains a vital component of many of the products we rely upon in our every day lives, but it was great to hear of the many initiatives being undertaken to reduce its impact on our environment.
I was also struck by the fact that all the senior management (pictured) began their careers as apprentices, underlining the importance and relevance of technical and vocational qualifications for our success as a country.
