I had a useful walk-and-talk meeting around Aylesbury town centre this morning with Cllr Rachael Matthews, Deputy Cabinet Member for Town Centre Regeneration at Buckinghamshire Council. We were joined by members of the council’s economic development team. We started in the Exchange, where I was assured that contractors have been instructed to repair damaged stonework, and then moved onto the High Street, to discuss potential ways to improve the old Gala Bingo site. I asked for a progress update on the regeneration of the Market Square and Kingsbury, and look forward to seeing rapid action when plans are published in the coming weeks. There is amazing potential to enhance the town centre if it receives the right energy, attention and investment. I will keep pressing the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities for the levelling-up funding we need to help turn the aspirations for our county town into reality.
