It was great to meet three apprentices at local housing association Fairhive Homes this morning, as part of the celebration of National Apprenticeship week. In the Property Services team, Rory has recently qualified as a fully-trained electrician and Jake is well underway with his training to become a plumber. Georgia, in the Comms team, started working in content production and has now moved onto public relations. I was really impressed to hear how all three of them have had such a wide range of hands-on experience with brilliant opportunities to learn on the job, alongside a day a week of study. Fairhive is clearly committed to supporting and developing its apprentices as they begin their careers, and I was pleased to hear that most of them stay with the organisation once they have completed their formal qualifications. Today’s visit highlighted the Department for Education steadfast commitment to apprenticeships in a modern and agile workforce.
