I was pleased to speak at the Committee stage of Vicky Ford Private Member's Bill on ensuring school attendance this morning. The new law will require local authorities to reduce absences and ensure schools themselves have an attendance policy. This is important, because figures show that missing just a few lessons can have a massive impact on a young person's future. But it's also vital that parents play their part, and ensure their children go to school every day.
