I had a fascinating visit to Serious Brands on Rabans Lane in Aylesbury this afternoon. They develop and manufacture world-leading lights that are now mainly sold for reading and hobbies. They started out making lights for sewing machines, and their products have also been used in hot air balloons, lifeboats and even the space shuttle.
Hearing about the challenges they have faced importing wood from Ukraine to produce packaging, and delays in deliveries of components caused by attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea was a real reminder that international conflicts have a direct impact on local businesses - and underlines why the Government is right to be taking action to support Ukraine and attack Houthi terror bases.
Already a big local success, I was also told about plans for future growth which include some really exciting innovations.
This is exactly the type of dynamic business we need in the UK, providing great jobs for local people.
