I have just spent two valuable days visiting British Forces in Gibraltar with the cross-party Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme. Under UK Strategic Command, our soldiers, sailors and aviators play a vital role both defending Gibraltar and supporting action elsewhere in the world. The Royal Gibraltar Regiment of the British Army, RAF Gibraltar, Royal Navy Gibraltar Squadron and the Gibraltar Defence Police together affirm British sovereignty, reassure local people and provide transit facilities as a Forward Mounting Base. You can read more about their work here. From their base at Devil’s Tower Camp, it was great to see their important work first-hand, and meet brilliant personnel of all ranks, ranging from a soldier in just his second week on the Rock to those with several decades’ military experience. They’re all absolutely committed to defending Britain’s interests - and as the Deputy Prime Minister repeated on Wednesday during PMQs, the UK Government remains steadfast in its support of Gibraltar.
