Rob speaks in Queen Speech debate

Rob Butler praised the measures set out in the Queen's Speech debate today on the theme of making Britain the best place to grow up and grow old. The Speech sets out the Government’s priorities for the year ahead, reflecting the ambitions and aspirations of the British people.

Speaking after the debate, Rob said: 

"I was glad to be able to highlight the way Ministers are taking action to improve the lives of people living in the Aylesbury constituency. Some of the points I covered were:

A focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. I am extremely pleased that the Government has published proposals to improve this vital area of education. Too many local people struggle to get the help they need, and I want to thank the volunteers at Grasps in Aylesbury for all the work they do across Bucks to help. I will continue to work with Buckinghamshire Council and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust to ensure young people with SEND receive the care, attention and education they need and deserve.

Lifelong learning and skills development: The Department for Education is working to create a lifelong skills guarantee. This is so important to ensure that older people have access to education and training in new skills. I also talked about promoting technical education, including at Aylesbury College, and highlighted the new courses available at Bucks UTC.

Our plan for social care: The government is moving forward with strengthening our social care system to ensure older people get the help and support they need, putting them at the heart of a comprehensive vision for social care, coupled with massive investment in the NHS.

Conversion therapy ban. I was pleased to state my support for the conversion therapy ban, an abhorrent and evil practice designed to change an individual’s sexual orientation. We all need to be free to love who we love without fear or intimidation."
