Rob Butler MP today visited the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The centre provides world-class treatment for those with spinal cord injuries. Speaking after the visit Rob said:
For nearly 80 years, the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville has provided world-class treatment and care, inspired by its founder Professor Ludwig Guttmann. Today, adults and children benefit from activity-based restorative therapy, counselling and educational programmes that enable them to return home with as much independence as possible.The centre has impressive facilities and equipment, but the key to successful rehabilitation is the dedicated staff who work tirelessly with their patients.
It was good to meet some of them today to say thank you for all they do, and especially for their commitment during the pandemic. The centre provides lifelong follow-up to its patients, and is also a massive support to families adapting to a new way of life. I’m extremely proud to have the NSIC in my constituency – all the more so after hearing first-hand from patients about the huge difference Stoke Mandeville has made at such a traumatic time in their lives.
