I was extremely impressed by Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) when I visited Aylesbury Fire Station this afternoon.
The highly-trained teams are expert at dealing with complex incidents such as building collapses, major traffic accidents, natural disasters and acts of terrorism. The dedication of the crews is exceptional. Aylesbury’s USAR unit has won many awards for its outstanding work, and is valuable both locally and nationally – as I saw first-hand today.
I’m very concerned to hear that this unit is under threat of closure and will be seeking urgent meetings with ministers next week.
