This morning I spoke to the Director of Housing at Abbeyfield, the charity that owns the retirement home in Wendover that’s under threat of closure. Residents are understandably extremely worried that they might have to find somewhere new to live, and staff are anxious that they could lose their jobs. I asked the charity to explore every possible option to keep the home open, and made several suggestions to help improve its chances of survival. I was reassured to hear that Abbeyfield is trying to find a new owner, so that residents can stay in the homes they love, and I stressed the need to keep them fully informed as the consultation continues on the home’s future. I will continue to fight for Abbeyfield residents and staff in the weeks and months ahead.
