Following the highly successful NATO summit in Lithuania, attended by representatives of its 31 member states, the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reported back to MPs about his talks with our Allies.
During the summit, Turkey finally agreed to allow Sweden membership of NATO. This is vital in the face of Russia’s appalling aggression against Ukraine. President Zelenskyy was also there, as leaders of the G7 countries signed the Joint declaration of Support for Ukraine.
The UK is leading the way, providing more training, kit, and equipment, notably air defences and long-range missiles.
After the PM’s statement, I raised the importance to NATO of our Continuous At Sea Nuclear Deterrent, based at HM Naval Base Clyde. I asked Rishi Sunak to reaffirm his support for this crucial part of the UK’s defence, and thank those who dedicate their lives to protecting our nation.
