Many people in Buckinghamshire have raised serious concerns about farmland being used for solar panels, instead of agriculture. I’ve heard this first-hand when visiting farms in my constituency, where dedicated farmers are working around the clock to get food on our tables. Yesterday, I spoke about this to the Minister for Renewables, Andrew Bowie MP, to ensure he and his fellow ministers in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero appreciate the strong local desire to protect our farmland. So I’m extremely pleased that today the Conservatives Government has demonstrated how it will continue to back our farmers, by making it clear that the highest quality agricultural land must be protected from solar panel developments. I also welcome the introduction of additional grants for British farmers to help them install cheaper rooftop solar panels which will help boost productivity and cut down on energy costs.
