I’m asking for your vote in the General Election so that I can return to Parliament and continue to be a strong voice for Aylesbury and the surrounding villages. Since I was first elected in 2019, I’ve spoken more than 500 times in the House of Commons, about the topics that are most important to you and your family.
The Conservatives are committed to our countryside and care about rural communities. As Vice Chairman of the Rural Services All Party Parliament Group for three years, I ensured that the issues that matter most in our villages and on our farms were being heard in Parliament.
Here are my Rural Priorities if I'm re-elected:
- PROTECTING OUR GREEN SPACES: We need houses for the next generation, but it is essential that they are built in the right place. That means brownfield-first, as opposed to greenfield development. We must prevent towns creeping into the countryside.
- FARMS ARE FOR FOOD, NOT SOLAR PANELS: Our agricultural land is precious, and protecting our food security is absolutely essential in an increasingly dangerous world. My priority is to support farmers in using their land to grow food; I believe solar panels are for roofs, not fields.
- BETTER CONNECTIVITY: Too often, rural communities can feel isolated and cut off. I've worked with ministers to enhance rural broadband access, and I have campaigned and chaired meetings in the House of Commons for better rural bus services.
- TACKLING COUNTRYSIDE CRIME: Rural crime has a huge impact, especially on farmers. I'll work with police to prioritise it, building on my work highlighting hare coursing, rural equipment theft, and flytipping.
- IMPROVING RURAL ROADS: Cars are crucial in the countryside, so it's vital that our roads are well maintained. I successfully lobbied for funds to tackle potholes, and I will keep pushing for more money for our area.
In addition, if I am re-elected, I will continue to meet representatives of the NFU and visit local farms, just as I have done over the past four and a half years.
