Ever since the BBC announced its plans to scrap the local edition of the evening tv news programme 'South Today', I have been urging broadcasting bosses to reconsider. Before the summer recess, I held a debate in the House of Commons explaining why I believe the BBC is breaking its Charter obligations with this decision that nobody locally wants. Today I have written to the BBC Director-General to implore him to reverse this proposal, save the programme and ensure local people can get local television news.
