Ever since the BBC announced its plans to scrap the local edition of the evening tv news programme 'South Today', I have been urging broadcasting bosses to reconsider.
The broadcasting regulator Ofcom have replied to my letter calling on them to stop the BBC axing our local evening TV news. They repeat the point I’ve made before that BBC One continues to be the most used source of regional news in England.
Ever since the BBC announced it was axing the Oxford edition of “South Today”, I’ve called on the broadcaster to reverse its decision and continue to provide local news for local people. But it still wants to include stories about Aylesbury in a programme made in Southampton.
Aylesbury MP Rob Butler has welcomed a Government investment of nearly £500,000 for local cultural institutions to help them recover and reopen to visitors this summer.
