Aylesbury MP Rob Butler has welcomed a Government investment of nearly £500,000 for local cultural institutions to help them recover and reopen to visitors this summer.
Rob said:
“I’m delighted that the Government has provided £445,380 through the Culture Recovery Fund for museums and organisations here in Aylesbury. The town has a fascinating history, from its origins to the iron age to the famous civil war battle between Parliamentarians and Royalists in 1642.
“This funding will help safeguard this fantastic heritage for future generations and create new experiences ready to welcome visitors back to attractions once coronavirus restrictions ease.”
The measures announced today (Friday 2nd) brings the Government's total investment through the Culture Recovery Fund so far to more than £1.2 billion. More than 2,700 organisations are being offered nearly £400 million in grants and loans in this round of funding. In Aylesbury, beneficiaries include the Bucks County Museum, Towersey Festival and local event business, Transition Video Ltd.
Rob added:
“Supporting organisations ranging from a local museum to an events production firm, this money will help those working in the heritage, music and events sectors build back from the coronavirus crisis and return to normal in the months ahead.
“Culture is a key part of our local economy, and the Culture Recovery Fund will ensure that heritage sites and organisations in Aylesbury are ready for a busy summer of reopening and recovery. I’m looking forward to them returning and helping make the town the best place to live, work, visit and invest.”
Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden MP, said:
“Our record-breaking Culture Recovery Fund has already helped thousands of culture and heritage organisations across the country survive the biggest crisis they've ever faced. “Now we’re staying by their side as they prepare to welcome the public back through their doors - helping our cultural gems plan for reopening and thrive in the better times ahead.”
